Reveals

The light-filled rear kitchen room uses complex and crisp detailing to maximise the compact plan. Generous roof lights are lined with flush oak reveals carefully coordinated with the kitchen joinery below.

The project included a complete overhaul of the existing house and garden. The garden room and extension mirror each other in elevation and materiality, formally arranged to express continuity from building to garden to building again. Long vistas are shaped through thin framed aluminium doors. White pigmented concrete panels in an industrial ‘flecked’ finish bring a subtle robustness to the garden offset with warm iroko fencing and soft planting.

Opportunities were seized for a sustainable approach to construction with the existing loft room and roof spaces being re-lined and insulated to beyond current Building Regulation requirements.
