Island House,
Bahamas

A large family house in the exclusive community of Old Fort Bay in the Western part of New Providence, the capital island of The Bahamas.

The building orientation and layout is driven by the spectacular canal side site that enjoys a double aspect view of the water to the South and West.  The main living space has a 30’-0” high ‘cathedral’ ceiling with exposed timber rafters and automatic roof lights to encourage natural ventilation from the ocean breezes. The outdoor pool and deck spaces connect effortlessly with the inside through a 36’-0” wide sliding-folding door.

The design encourages outdoor living by creating a series of indoor/outdoor spaces that offer varying protection from the tropical climate throughout the year. There are shaded spaces for Summer and open decks that will catch the Winter sun.
