Clapham Housing 2

Office to Residential conversion creating a one-bed and a two-bed House, Clapham Common, South London.

We were asked to maximise the development potential for adjacent office units utilising Permitted Development Rights.

The building narrows in plan from East to West. The solution was a pair of ‘Upside-Down’ houses, a smaller one-bed at the end-of-terrace condition next to a larger two-bed.

We proposed three custom ‘furniture’ elements to be inserted into the existing volumes. In the larger two-bed unit a super-thin mezzanine deck was introduced together with a ‘balustrade-table’ to the main stair. The one-bed house is defined with a custom oak shelf unit next to the stair void.

The deck adds 30% to the usable social floor area creating a flexible space for work or play.

Both houses were occupied immediately on completion.
