A large retrofit project to a lovely post-war stucco villa. A low energy approach to design has been adopted; highly insulated new-build elements, a substantial high performance glazing package throughout the whole house, photovoltaics and an intensive green roof system are proposed. Robust natural materials, stone and timber, are extensively specified. The design was sensitively developed to resolve how the brief requirements could be delivered with a responsible balance of retained, retrofitted and new-build elements of construction.
The home's relationship with the garden is reconfigured with an expanded lower ground floor and generous 4.75m upper ground floor terrace. Planning has also been secured for a new 1st floor terrace accessed from the master bedroom and ensuite.
