A new-build family home in Wandsworth, South London.
The site consists of a relatively narrow plot of about 5m (front) to 4.4m wide at the back. It is currently occupied with a 2 storey extension to the host property completed in the 1980s. The design rationale is informed by the site location, an East facing gap site between the 1950s terrace to the North and the adjacent large four storey building to the South. The design proposal focuses on delivering a high quality family home whilst respecting and enhancing its urban locale.
Following a pre-application planning was granted by committee in July 2023.
As an emerging architectural practice we place sustainability at the heart of our design philosophy. We are therefore very excited to use this project as a platform to engage with the Passivhaus development process. This house will be designed as a 'Low Energy House' using Passivhaus principals. The building will be ultra insulated and is proposed to be built using CLT, cross laminated timber, to promote sequestered carbon in the construction in order to off-set the carbon heavy basement development. Ventilation will be achieved with an efficient MVHR system and heating is via an Air Source Heat Pump.
