A new-build house built to Passivhaus standards on a small site next to a magnificent Oak Tree.
The site is a highly constrained small plot of land next to the railway line in Walton-on-Thames. To the East a pleasant woodland occupies the railway embankment, this culminates with a protected Oak tree in the Eastern corner of the site.
In response to the challenging site conditions a compact rigorous plan layout has evolved. The resulting massing is formal and is expressed honestly and elegantly. The finesse of the scheme arrives from the careful detailing and materiality of the facades.
The acoustic constraints for high quality glazing and a Mechanical Ventilation system has allowed us to pursue a sustainable Passivhaus concept, despite the inevitable economic constraints of a self-build project such as this.
